WHAT WAS THE CHALLENGE?
To meet an increased demand from clients and employees, as well as to accelerate and drive sustainability issues in the real estate industry, Newsec needed to integrate its future sustainable business with its digitalization offering. This, in turn, required increased alignment, insight, and proactive engagement from the organization. Newsec quickly realized that creating space for this was a prerequisite for attracting and retaining talent and clients in a competitive world, especially in the context of the urgent situation our planet is facing

We were all in agreement on this, while the knowledge about sustainable development and our sustainability services was not sufficiently embedded or implemented in the operation. The implementation power was thus in place for too few throughout the organization.

Newsec wanted to take stock, create awareness, and establish alignment regarding current and future sustainability efforts. The goal was to collaborate more strategically to develop the global network and sell more sustainability services, thereby strengthening the brand.

The goal was and is for everyone to take ownership and drive sustainability issues – that’s where the power of change lies. Newsec realized they needed help to provide knowledge, methods, and clear follow-up to unite around strategic business development in sustainability. The aim was to create alignment, ownership, and capability among management groups and leaders to drive change and activate the organization. With these needs as the foundation, Doings came into the picture.

WHY DID YOU ENGAGE DOINGS?

The decision to engage Doings was based on three parameters; Doings possesses a solid and comprehensive knowledge of social, ecological, and economic sustainability from a business perspective. They have a documented ability to understand the complexity of the business and demonstrate the connection between the need for strategic business development in sustainability and the areas we needed to develop to bring about changes in the business model.

In addition to sustainability expertise, Doings also has branding and communication experts, as well as consultants experienced in handling complexity in change management. Their strength lies in not only defining why but also HOW we can get everyone actively working towards sustainable development. Doings also has extensive experience in all types of education and learning, especially the agile, digital, and interactive approaches required for Newsec. We have worked with Doings in other contexts and know that their commitment, pedagogy, and energy make the journey enjoyable. Whether it’s physical meetings or online setups, there is always a practical approach that supports us in directly testing new knowledge and tools in our daily lives.

WHAT WAS THE SOLUTION?

Doings initiated a current state and needs analysis through in-depth interviews with the management team and selected parts of the organization, using Doings’ Sustainability Puzzle model. The model pedagogically addresses nine areas, puzzle pieces, that are crucial in transitioning to sustainable business models. Based on the analysis, we formulated insights and reached a consensus on needs and challenges. The Sustainability Puzzle has since guided us through our collaborative work.

In Swedish and international workshops, Doings provided expertise on new definitions and concepts, changing legislation, and the increased pressure from the external environment and what it means for Newsec. Through strategic exercises, we established a sustainability ambition with clear implications for our sustainability strategy, organization, brand, and communication. Together with management groups and leaders, Doings and the team have crafted a well-anchored and engaging roadmap towards sustainable development. One of the success factors was how we systematically worked from the leadership collective out to the organization. With Doings, we have created conditions to reinforce new sustainable behaviors at the organizational, team, and individual levels, always keeping the customer journey in focus.

WHAT WAS THE RESULT?

SUSTAINABILITY IN REALITY & EVERYDAY LIFE: With the help of Doings, we no longer talk about a trend; sustainability is now our business. We have created conditions for clear cultural and behavioral changes around sustainable development at all levels.

CLEAR STRATEGY & KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: Strengthened capacity to use our strategic business development. We have concretized HOW we work with our sustainable development in our business plans and key performance indicators for 2024, with clear benchmarks internally and in customer surveys.

NORDIC COLLABORATION: Sustainable development is cross-border within the company, and Doings also facilitated the initiation of our Nordic collaboration.

DEVELOPED OUR BUSINESS & INTERNATIONAL CLIENTS: With Doings’ support, we have formulated our purpose and meaning while developing our business. The knowledge and understanding of how we contribute to increased business value have truly propelled us forward.
