THE CHALLENGE
We operate in an industry where both research and proven experience are crucial. When we wanted to develop our leaders, it was therefore important that our program was built on these very foundations.
At the same time, we faced several challenges:
Our managers find it difficult to step away from operations and always put patients first. We therefore needed a time-efficient setup.
Many leaders can feel isolated in their roles. We wanted to build relationships across organizational boundaries and create networks where managers could find sparring partners.
The financial situation was tight, and we needed to equip our managers with tools to understand financial sustainability and engage employees in finding solutions.
In our industry, we win and lose contracts. This means not all leaders have personally chosen Aleris as their employer. We therefore also wanted to strengthen the sense of pride in being a leader at Aleris.
WHY DOINGS?
It was important for us to find a partner that didn’t offer a generic product, but one that could start from our specific conditions. Doings quickly demonstrated that they understood both our needs and our constraints, and they created a program that is both relevant and flexible.
A key element has been that the content is continuously adapted to our real challenges and our own good examples. This makes the setup feel close to the leaders’ everyday work and directly applicable in their roles.
THE SOLUTION
Together, we created a hybrid leadership program focused on providing practical tools and new perspectives—without taking unnecessary time away from patient-centered work.
The program gives managers the opportunity to practice how to:
-
Lead with a focus on both quality and sustainable economy
-
Build relationships and networks across organizational boundaries
-
Strengthen their own role as leaders—of themselves, their teams, and their missions
THE IMPACT
The program has helped us strengthen our leadership index, improve our eNPS, and increase engagement among both leaders and employees. Participants rate the leadership program 9 out of 10 when it comes to providing new insights and knowledge for developing their leadership. On the question of whether the program will improve their performance and effectiveness, the average score is 8.7 out of 10.
We have also seen how the program has contributed to a greater sense of pride in being a leader at Aleris. It gives us energy to continue leading the way toward the health and care of tomorrow.
